The fee for non-immigrant visas will rise to $131, effective January 1, 2008

The Department of State has announced that the fee for non-immigrant visas, which has been set at $100 since 2002, will rise to $131, effective January 1, 2008. The purpose of the fee increase is to finance security improvements in the visa and border security processes of the United States for the protection of all travelers. Applicants who paid the $100 fee before January 1, 2008 and who appear for visa interviews before February 1, 2008 will not have to pay the higher fee. Applicants who paid their fees before January 1, 2008 and who appear for interviews on February 1, 2008 or later will be required to pay an additional $31 at the time of their interviews. The additional payment will be made at the Embassy. This fee increase does not effect the $100 SEVIS fee that student and exchange visitors pay. Similarly, the immigrant visa application fee will rise by $20 to $355, effective January 1, 2008.
