of the United States to create a Database on trafficking in persons to be used by the Paraguayan government.
The Embassy donated 30,000 American dollars to the Women’s Secretariat to be used for the payment of rent, furniture, equipment and other articles for the women’s shelter. The shelter will house 20 women and girls that have been trafficked illegally outside of Paraguay. Personnel will provide shelter to the victims and they will receive medical, juridical and psychological assistance.
The Ambassador announced the donation of 38,000 American dollars for the acquisition of computer equipment, programs and assistance in the development of a national database about the trafficking in persons that can be shared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Public Ministry, the Women’s Secretariat, the Children and Youths’ Secretariat and the Secretariat of Repatriation. The database will connect these agencies with the National Police and will allow joint work in cases of trafficking in persons.
The Government of the United States recognized the good work being done by the Women’s Secretariat and their efforts to combat trafficking in persons.
