Security incidents in Asuncion

This Warden Message alerts U.S. citizens residing or traveling in Paraguay to recent security incidents in Asuncion. On May 5, 2009, a suspected improvised explosive device was discovered in downtown Asuncion. The Paraguayan National Police quickly evacuated the zone and neutralized the device, which was found to be fake. Several bomb threats were subsequently phoned in to government offices in Asuncion. This incident follows the discovery of a small explosive device at the Supreme Court building on April 29. Local authorities are investigating these incidents.
American citizens are reminded to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings. If you find yourself near an area evacuated by the Police, immediately depart the area. Report any suspicious activity to the Paraguayan National Police.
