Ambassador Ayalde congratulates Paraguayan Youth Ambassadors
U.S. Ambassador, Liliana Ayalde, recognized and expressed her congratulations at a ceremony she hosted for the third group of Paraguayan young people that traveled recently to the United States under the Youth Ambassadors program for 2009. Part of this recognition involved presenting each participant with a commemorative coin as a memento for their participation in the Youth Ambassadors program. During the ceremony each of the ten Youth Ambassadors for 2009 had the opportunity to talk about and share their experiences they had while in the United States. They also presented a musical number to the delight of those in attendance at the ceremony.
These 10 Paraguayan students between the ages of 15 and 18 traveled to the United States on February 20, 2009 and returned to Paraguay on March 8, 2009. The first five days of their visit were spent in Washington D.C. with 8 other Youth Ambassadors from Uruguay and 10 Youth Ambassadors from Bolivia. In Washington they had the chance to visit museums, historic monuments, and meet with representatives of the Department of State, Congress, the Paraguayan Embassy, the OAS, and the World Bank. The rest of their visit was spent in Kansas which is the sister state of Paraguay. While in Kansas these Paraguayan Youth Ambassadors stayed with host families, attend local high schools, and participated in community events.
