Reforestation in the San Rafael Reserve

October 10, 2009

On October 2, 2009 U.S. Ambassador to Paraguay, Liliana Ayalde, the Director of USAID in Paraguay, Rose Rakas, and the renowned talk show host Humberto Rubin launched a project aimed toward the reforestation of the wooden areas in the San Rafael reserve. This project is in support of the campaign, “A todo pulmon, Paraguay respire” with smaller projects in Hohenau, Pirapo, and Alto Vera.

In Pirapo volunteers and students planted 500 seedlings in the future municipal dump. In Hohenau visitors participated in the “Expo de las Colonias Unidas”. In Alto Vera this project was launched and concrete action commenced to end the deforestation in the San Rafael reserve. Symbolic plantings were carried out at each site to raise awareness.
