Ambassador Ayalde Presents Stamp to Commemorate Arbitration of President Rutherford B. Hayes

On November 10, Ambassador Liliana Ayalde participated in a ceremony at the Paraguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs to introduce a new Paraguayan stamp that pays homage to President Rutherford B. Hayes and the 130th anniversary of the Chaco territory arbitration in which President Hayes decided in Paraguay’s favor.
Ambassador Ayalde was accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alejandro Hamed Franco and the Director of the
Paraguayan Postal Service, Rossmary Cuquejo de Monges in the ceremonial launching and seal of the stamp. In her remarks, Ambassador Ayalde cited the Hayes decision and underscored the importance of the U.S.-Paraguayan partnership in cultural initiatives.
On July 7, the U.S. Embassy invited the entire Paraguayan community to compete in a stamp design contest to commemorate the 130th anniversary of the arbitration. Javier Gimenez Peña of Asuncion won the contest and received a digital camera as the grand prize. As of November, 10th, this stamp is now available.
