Ambassador Liliana Ayalde Makes Book Donation to Public School in Luque

November 19, 2008

On Tuesday, November 18, Ambassador Liliana Ayalde, donated a set of Spanish reading books, encyclopedias, and other reference material to the General José Elizardo Aquino Elementary School Library in the city of Luque, 30 minutes outside of Asuncion’s city center.  The Minister of Education, Horacio Galeano Perrone, joined the Ambassador in a ceremony at the school to mark the occasion.

The book donation consisted of three collections of reading materials (294 books) in Spanish valued at approximately $3,000 featuring books for pre-school, elementary, and secondary school children on history, geography, basic science, biographies, art, cinema, and sports in the United States.

The U.S. Embassy book program supports education reform in Paraguay, which is one of the priorities of President Lugo’s administration.  Each year, an average of 75 percent of educational institutions in Paraguay benefit from these book donations.  This recent act represents the third book donation that Ambassador Ayalde has made since her arrival to Paraguay.
