Embassy Supports Junior Achievers
November 24, 2008
Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) Michael Fitzpatrick participated in the closing ceremony of Global Entrepreneurship Week and the “Night of Heroes” awards program at the Granados Park Hotel to recognize several young entrepreneurs for their achievements in multiple categories of the Junior Achievement program. DCM Fitzpatrick presented three book sets (valued at $3,000) to Don Zoilo Vera de Caazapá (Public School #915), winner of the Peace Corps’ Innovative Ideas competition, an initiative to teach young Paraguayans about the opportunities to form small businesses that benefit their families and communities.
Also in the spirit of Global Entrepreneurship Week, the U.S. Embassy, in conjunction with Fundacion Paraguaya and the Paraguayan-American Chamber of Commerce Foundation, exposed over 250 of the Embassy’s English language scholarship students to a motivational presentation on the skills necessary to be an entrepreneur by a successful Paraguayan businessman. With this program, the Embassy joined several other organizations around the world to carry out initiatives that inspire young people to innovate, imagine, create, and think big to turn ideas into reality.
