U.S. Embassy Caps Off President Lugo’s First 100 Days with Medical Assistance

November 26, 2008

To support President Lugo’s first 100 days in office and the high priority of improving health care throughout Paraguay, Deputy Chief of Mission Michael J. Fitzpatrick led a U.S. Embassy initiative that provided free medical attention to over 2,000 patients in the town of San Antonio, Central Department.  With the help of the Paraguayan Armed Forces, Ministry of Health, and the Volunteer Firefighters of Paraguay, children and adults from low income families were able to receive proper medical care.

Over the course of two days, 5,885 medical consultations, 533 vaccinations, 2,118 treatments for parasites, and 623 family planning consultations were performed at a local elementary school.  This round of assistance, valued at $35,000, culminates a series of several U.S. Embassy activities during President Lugo’s first 100 days at a total value exceeding $420,000.
