Ambassador Ayalde presents donation to school in San Antonio

March 5, 2009

Ambassador Liliana Ayalde received a warm welcome from the students and teachers at the Oñondivepa Elementary School in San Antonio, just 45 minutes south of Asuncion, for the donation of school books, furniture, and other school supplies.  The donation, valued at $9,000, was a project made possible by the U.S. Embassy’s Humanitarian Assistance Program, courtesy of the U.S. Office of Defense Cooperation.  The books and school supplies were acquired locally while the furniture was manufactured by indigenous Paraguayan artisans.

During the event, Ambassador Ayalde joined some students to plant mango trees in the school playground.  After, the Ambassador shared some remarks and distributed school supplies to several students.

This donation complemented the Embassy’s medical donation last November at the same location, where the Embassy worked jointly with the Paraguayan Armed Forces, Ministry of Health, and Volunteer Firefighters to provide medical care to over 2,000 patients in support of President Fernando Lugo’s first 100 days in office.
