Selective Service

Nearly all male U.S. citizens who have attained the age of 18 years and who have not yet reached the age of 26 years, even those resident abroad or who hold dual nationality, are obligated to register with the Selective Service.  This obligation also applies to legal permanent residents of the United States (i.e. green card holders.)  Failure to register with the Selective Service is a serious violation of U.S. law.  Failure to register with the Selective Service affects eligibility for a wide range of U.S. government services and benefits, including Federal employment, student financial aid and, for legal permanent residents, U.S. citizenship.  Many states also have laws punishing failure to register.

Please see the Web site of the Selective Service System, for complete information.
