Fernando Lugo and the Patriotic Alliance for Change for their victory in the Paraguayan general elections.

Also noteworthy was the active participation of international observers who accompanied the Paraguayans in this election. The elections were seen as a democratic, transparent, and participatory process, signs of Pargaguayan civic society.

The U.S. government has always maintained a deep and productive partnership with the people and government of Paraguay.  Once again, we express our firm commitment to continue to work and strengthen our bilateral relations with the government of Fernando Lugo.
