U.S. Embassy Donates One Million Syringes and Thermocycler for Prevention and Control of Yellow Fever in Paraguay

March 6, 2008

Ambassador Cason formally presented the donation of one million syringes for the ongoing immunization campaign, including an already delivered batch to the Ministry of Health on February 29.  Also, the Embassy

of the United States donated a thermocycler to the Central Laboratory of the Paraguayan Ministry of Public Health for analyzing blood samples and reagents.

This donation was made possible through the commitment of the United States Southern Command and the close relationship with the Ministry of Health and the Armed Forces of Paraguay.

The Government of the United States of America remains firmly committed to working with the Paraguayan government, through the Ministry of Health, and with all Paraguayans, in maintaining control of yellow fever in the country.

U.S. assistance to address this health emergency of yellow fever carries a value of more than $300,000 since the declaration of a national emergency by the Paraguayan government on February 15.
